College system in America: good system or insider club? April 7, 2010

An article was put out by WSJ.com about college rejection letters. Many of the most successful and famous have never been to college or didn’t get into places like Harvard or Yale. Yet year after year, many college students are told that they are not accepted to Harvard or Yale or any type of institution of higher learning.

This is mostly due to the legacy system – where students whose parents attended the college get top priority admissions.

This makes a person wonder: what if the college system in America really is like an insiders club? What I mean by this is that you must know someone that goes there or be related to them in order to go to that college, therefore succeed?
